This phone-in-a-box was a popular design that looks to have been introduced in the mid-1970s. The phone was offered by Western Electric and was called as the Stowaway line of phones. This model (there were several different designs including one that looked like a roll-top desk) was the Mediterranean Oak with an ivory phone (Model #2910A11-50).
